Hopes of remaining unbeaten at home for the whole season were ended on Thursday night as the Belle Vue Aces handed the King's Lynn 'Roger Warnes Transport' Stars a 54-39 at the Adrian Flux Arena.
Ahead of the meeting, Stars boss Rob Lyon admitted that the Aces posed a threat and he was right. Despite winning the opening heat of the meeting with a 4-2, courtesy of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kai Huckenbeck, it was the visitors who remained in control throughout.
Lynn’s early two point lead was wiped out in the third when Craig Cook and Scott Nicholls raced to a maximum win over captain Rory Schlein. It got worse for the Stars as the meeting approached the second half. Belle Vue piled in with three consecutive maximum heats which put the Stars 14 points behind after 8 heats on home shale.
Lyon attempted to restore some pride into the team with a tactical ride nomination for Huckenbeck in heat 9. The German is starting to make a name for himself amongst the fans and its easy to see why after he produced a great ride to reel in a fast starting Richie Worrall to beat him on the final lap and take maximum double points.
Huckenbeck’s heroics counted for very little in the end though as Lyon’s men couldn’t work a way back into the fixture. The Aces were just too good and that was made evident when looking at the scorecard. Just four last places for the visitors during the whole meeting is a stark contrast to Lynn’s 11.
Two more heat advantages for the Aces team in the final six heats resulted in a 15 point defeat and the clubs first at home this season. Lyon will not have long to wait before he can get his men back onto winning ways, the Stars are back in action on Monday when Coventry visit the Adrian Flux Arena in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
