STARS 46 COVENTRY 44

Wednesday April 13, 2016
KING’S Lynn earned their second win of the season as they edged a 46-44 victory over Coventry in a tense clash at the Adrian Flux Arena.

The Roger Warnes Transport Stars got back to winning ways with a battling performance – but their triumph was overshadowed by a heat 14 horror crash involving skipper Rory Schlein.

Schlein, who missed the majority of 2015 due to a back injury, was taken to hospital after a nasty pile-up involving all four riders.

The club are awaiting further news on the full extent of a shoulder injury for the hugely popular Australian, whilst Coventry youngster Kacper Woryna suffered wrist damage in the accident.

Despite the loss of Schlein in the penultimate race, the Stars held on in a tense finale to claim three Elite League points.

No.1 Niels-Kristian Iversen top scored with 10 points – and although he admitted it was far from a perfect performance, he was relieved to see them emerge victorious in a tight encounter.

Iversen said: “It wasn’t really the best meeting for me personally, and the team didn’t manage to do what we maybe should have done.

“It was enough to get the win though which was the main thing, and we were glad to get three more points.”

It was a solid all-around team performance for the Norfolk outfit, with all seven riders making useful contributions.

Mads Korneliussen impressed with two wins in his final two races after partnering Lewis Rose to a 5-1 in his opening outing.

Rose and Carl Wilkinson also chipped in with vital contributions at reserve, whilst Robert Lambert and Kai Huckenbeck ran just one last place apiece with battling performances.

After doubling their Elite League points tally, King’s Lynn will be back in action as they host Leicester at the Adrian Flux Arena next Thursday, April 21 (7.30).

KING’S LYNN 46: Niels K Iversen 10, Mads Korneliussen 8, Carl Wilkinson 7, Robert Lambert 6+3, Kai Huckenbeck 5+1, Lewis Rose 5+1, Rory Schlein 5.
COVENTRY 44: Krzysztof Kasprzak 15, Jason Garrity 7, Josh Bates 6+1, Chris Harris 5+1, James Sarjeant 4+2, Danny King 4, Kacper Woryna 3.
