GREAT WIN FOR STARS

Thursday April 21, 2016
KING’S LYNN earned their third Elite League win of the season with a hard-fought 51-42 triumph over Leicester at the Adrian Flux Arena.

The Roger Warnes Transport Stars put in another strong all-around team display, running just three last places as they overcame the struggling Lions and claimed three more points.

They were given a scare with the scores level after six races, and when the hosts appeared to have made their breakthrough the visitors fought back to within three points entering the final four races.

Yet Rob Lyon’s side held their nerve before striking a 5-1 in heat 15 to leave Leicester travelling back to the Midlands empty handed.

It was a solid showing from the Norfolk outfit after their narrow win against Coventry last week - and Lyon was pleased with a “workmanlike performance”.

Lyon said: “It was a workmanlike performance and the boys got there in the end which was the main thing.

“I was particularly pleased with the reserves tonight, they came to the party and played their part to get us over the line.”

Niels-Kristian Iversen and Robert Lambert both impressed in heat-leader positions, bagging double figure scores and joining forces in the final race.

Danish ace Mads Korneliussen recorded two vital race wins whilst Kai Huckenbeck recovered from a tough start to take the chequered flag in heat seven.

He was joined at the front by reserve Lewis Rose, whilst his lower order partner Carl Wilkinson repeated the trick alongside Korneliussen in the very next race as the Stars made their breakthrough.

Rose and Wilkinson both bagged vital contributions at reserve, whilst Sam Masters stepped in and notched a creditable paid six as he guested for injured Australian compatriot Rory Schlein.

After racing to their second successive home win, King’s Lynn will look to complete a quick-fire double over Leicester as they travel to Beaumont Park for the return fixture this Saturday, April 23 (7.30).

KING’S LYNN 51: Robert Lambert 11+1, Niels-Kristian Iversen 11, Mads Korneliussen 8, Carl Wilkinson 6+3, Lewis Rose 6+1, Kai Huckenbeck 5+1, Sam Masters 4+2.

LEICESTER 42: Fredrik Lindgren 10, Nicolai Klindt 9, Aaron Summers 8+1, Patrick Hougaard 8, Josh Auty 6, Paul Starke 1, Szymon Wozniak r/r.
