COVENTRY 42 YOUNG STARS 48

Friday May 13, 2016
KING’S Lynn Young Stars pulled off a spirited fightback to earn their first away win of the campaign with a 48-42 victory over Coventry at Brandon.

The Stebbings Car Superstore side recovered from a nightmare start to come away with a confidence-boosting triumph as they bounced back from a heavy home defeat against National League Champions Birmingham on Wednesday.

It was a superb result for the Norfolk outfit as they earned three well-deserved points following a determined effort.

And team manager Dale Allitt was full of praise for the character shown by his side to recover from Wednesday’s disappointing defeat.

“I’ve always said that when you are winning it’s easy, but you show your true character and fortitude much more when you lose a meeting,” said Allitt.

“Wednesday hurt us all, it hurt the riders and it hurt me because we’ve never suffered a beating like that at home, but I think tonight we’ve shown that we’re a decent team.

“To come here and get the win is a fantastic result. If someone would have said we’d win by six we’d have taken that, but you always want more as a team manager so I’m slightly disappointed we couldn’t quite get all four points.

“We are very pleased though. I’m very impressed with the riders and I think the way we’ve bounced back from Wednesday shows what we are all about.

“We came here to do a job and we showed a lot more character, belief and determination so I’m really proud of them tonight.”

After falling eight points behind within the first three heats, the sharp-starting visitors soon fought their way back into contention.

An impressive move from Ryan Kinsley to pass Conor Dwyer in heat eight brought them onto level terms before they struck a 5-1 in heat 11 and never looked back.

Nathan Greaves top scored for King’s Lynn, pulling off a tremendous win over Dan Greenwood in heat 13 to all but seal victory before narrowly missing out on the chance to claim all four points in heat 15.

Kinsley also starred once again at reserve to bag double figures whilst the remaining five riders all chipped in with useful points to see them over the line.

The Young Stars will be back in action when they host Buxton at the Adrian Flux Arena on Wednesday, May 25 (7.30).
