KING’S Lynn performed last-heat heroics to snatch a 45-45 draw from their clash with Swindon at the Adrian Flux Arena.
The Roger Warnes Transport Stars looked set to suffer their second home defeat of the season as they trailed the high-flying Robins by four points entering the final heat.
Yet Grand Prix star Niels-Kristian Iversen completed a faultless maximum to take the chequered flag, with teenage talent Robert Lambert roaring past Swindon skipper Jason Doyle to join him at the front.
It was a dramatic end to what was a tense night of action between two evenly-matched teams, with the Stars eventually earning a well-deserved point from their first home meeting in almost a month.
Team boss Rob Lyon admitted he was frustrated they were unable to emerge victorious on home soil, but he was nonetheless thrilled to salvage a draw right at the death.
Lyon said: “It actually felt like a win with the way we got the 5-1 in the end. It was an absolutely tremendous ride from Robert Lambert, and Niels-Kristian Iversen was immaculate as he was all night.
“It was a good way to finish, but in the cold light of day we are a bit disappointed we didn’t come away with the win.
“It was a great meeting though, with Swindon playing their part in some fantastic racing, and I guess speedway was the real winner in the end.”
Iversen led the Stars superbly with an imperious display at No.1, whilst Lambert offered excellent support all evening to earn double figures.
Lewis Rose battled to a vital seven points at reserve against his former club, whilst Mads Korneliussen and Troy Batchelor both claimed a race win apiece.
Carl Wilkinson and Kai Huckenbeck endured tough evenings, but they nonetheless contributed with vital points to ensure they avoided defeat.
The Stars will be back in action when they travel to Wolverhampton on Monday (7.30) before hosting the return fixture at the Adrian Flux Arena next Thursday.
