WOLVERHAMPTON 49 STARS 44

Monday May 30, 2016
KING’S Lynn staged a dramatic late fightback to snatch a consolation point from their 49-44 defeat against Wolverhampton.

The Roger Warnes Transport Stars put in a battling display at Monmore Green, with Niels-Kristian Iversen and Robert Lambert once again performing late heroics to ensure they did not leave empty handed.

The pair led the charge throughout for the Norfolk outfit before combining for a 5-1 in the final race to earn them a potentially vital Elite League point.

Team boss Rob Lyon was delighted with another brave showing from his side after losing reserve Lewis Rose due to a heat eight crash.

Said Lyon: “It was a workmanlike performance, especially after losing Lewis (Rose), which was a big blow to us because he was going well.

“The boys deserved that because they worked hard and managed to keep within touching distance before a fantastic heat 15 from Niels and Robert once again.

“Wolves were the better side on the night so deserved their win, but we are happy to come away with a point.”

Iversen kick-started their resurgence with a tactical ride win in heat 10, whilst Lambert recorded three race wins on his way to 12 superb points.

Rose also added a crucial 6+1 before being forced to withdraw after a heavy impact with the air fence in his third outing.

Mads Korneliussen and Adam Roynon both made important contributions, whilst Kai Huckenbeck improved as the meeting progressed on his first visit to the tight Monmore Green circuit.

Despite Troy Batchelor enduring a meeting to forget, it was an encouraging display from the Norfolk outfit to add to their Elite League tally.

They will have a chance to instantly avenge their defeat against the high-flying Wolves when they host the return fixture at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday (7.30).

WOLVERHAMPTON 49: Freddie Lindgren 9+1, Mikkel Bech 9+1, Jacob Thorssell 9, Sam Masters 7, Joonas Kylmakorpi 6+1, Kyle Howarth 6, Max Clegg 3+1.

KING’S LYNN 44: Niels-Kristian Iversen 14+1, Robert Lambert 12, Lewis Rose 6+1, Mads Korneliussen 5, Adam Roynon 3+1, Kai Huckenbeck 3, Troy Batchelor 1.
