WARD BACKING YOUNGSTERS TO SHINE

Thursday June 16, 2016
TWO-time World Under 21 Champion Darcy Ward is backing the next generation of speedway stars to shine at the Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday (7.30).

The Saddlebow Road circuit will host the opening round of the FIM World Under 21 Championship Final with a thrilling evening in prospect.

Ward, who is one of only two riders to win the prestigious event twice, believes the 2016 series will continue its tradition of showcasing the sport’s stars of the future.

Whilst he is keen to see Australian compatriots Jack Holder and Max Fricke impress, he is anticipating a wide-open contest between 16 talented riders.

Said Ward: “The World Under 21 Championship is where everyone is looking for future World Champions, and it’s already produced some of the best riders in the world over the years.

“Different names come through every year, but it never gets any easier because in their own age group they are still the best in the world.

“I saw the line-up and it could go many different ways. I think there are a number of different riders who could win it, so I’m sure we’ll see some great racing.

“It’d be nice to see the two Aussie boys, Jack Holder and Max Fricke, do well and I think they have a good chance.

“It will be a great experience for Jack, who is only in his second year riding in the UK, and from what I’ve seen Max has been having an awesome season so he has to have an opportunity to do pretty well.

“Whoever wins I’m sure they’ll deserve it and there will be some great excitement along the way.”

A full feature with Ward, recalling his two historic World Under 21 Championship wins, will be available in the special 56-page souvenir programme which has been produced for the event.
