PHILLIPS TO SKIPPER YOUNG STARS

Wednesday February 22, 2017
KING'S LYNN Young Stars have named Danny Phillips as club captain for the 2017 National League campaign.

The 20-year-old made the switch to the Adrian Flux Arena over the winter after spending the last two seasons with Stoke.

But despite being one of the newcomers to the Young Stars, club bosses have been impressed by the Middlesbrough born racer's attitude since coming on board.

Young Stars team manager Scott Campos said: "We're thrilled to hand Danny the captaincy for the season ahead and we feel he'll be great in his new role.

"There was certainly more than one candidate and it was something we had to think long and hard about.

"Danny was one of the riders who actually raised the subject of being a potential captain with ourselves, and for us that was an important factor.

"We know Danny is doubling-up with Newcastle this year, but as it stands there's actually very few fixtures he'll miss.

"We feel Danny has a lot to bring to the role of team captain and he's very knowledgable mechanically which will be a huge benefit to the younger members of the team throughout the season.

"We're looking forward to getting all of the boys together now and the excitement is certainly building!"
