STARS REACH CUP SEMIS

KING’S LYNN clinched their spot in Knockout Cup Semi-Finals with a dominant display against Leicester on home shale.

The Tru Plant Stars went into the fixture needing to make up a six-point deficit from the first leg. They started slowly, though, as they failed to get a race win from the opening three heats.

That was the wakeup call they needed, though, as they reeled off five straight 5-1s which virtually took the meeting away from the Lions heading into the interval.

A 4-2 advantage in heat 13 secured the victory on aggregate to the delight of the Stars’ management and supporters with the club now progressing to the last four.

Stars’ boss Dale Allitt said: “I am very pleased with that victory because it has been a very difficult week with riders pulling out and things like that. But these guys just rise above it and it’s pleasing to work with because they don’t know when they are beaten.

“Again we had a tough start to the meeting which didn’t go as perfectly as we had planned but we came back and owned the rest of the meeting.

“I have said all along from day one that we have key areas that are good and one of those areas is the engine room of the middle order.

“We got nine points from rider replacement which really showed how hard we worked to get the result.

“That said, though, it is never ideal to have to use guests and rider replacement in recent fixtures. We should have gone for a Monday and a Thursday race-night as a league but we were outvoted at the AGM which leaves us where we are, and we have to make the best of it.”

KING’S LYNN 59: Robert Lambert 17, Ty Proctor 11+2, Lewis Kerr 11+2, Josh Auty 9+3, Thomas Jorgensen 8+1, Kasper Andersen 3+2, Niels-Kristian Iversen r/r.

LEICESTER 31: Rory Schlein 12, Ricky Wells 6, Kyle Howarth 4, Todd Kurtz 4, Kyle Newman 2+1, James Sarjeant 2, Krystian Pieszczek 1.
King’s Lynn win 101-79 on aggregate.
