GRITTY Ty Proctor says that King’s Lynn must “re-group” and stick together after a tough night for the club.
The Tru Plant Stars lost Lewis Kerr and Kasper Andersen with serious injuries during a horror home clash with Leicester on Wednesday night.
Kerr sustained a fracture of his left leg and a broken right foot in three places while Andersen a broken shoulder and concussion.
The meeting had to be abandoned following the need for a new ambulance after Kerr’s crash in Heat 6. After a lengthy delay, the crash for Anderson happened at 10.15pm and no chance for the meeting to continue at such a late stage.
Now the club has to patch up their squad before going to Somerset on July 11.
Proctor said: “It was a difficult night for the club. No one wants to see crashes and injuries like that to their team-mates or rivals.
“I feel for Buster Chapman and the management. They did their best to get the meeting on but it was exceptional circumstances.
“You just can’t predict two big incidents like that. It’s just one of those things, it’s a dangerous sport. We have to accept that.
“Buster had produced an excellent track. Considering how hot the weather has been, it was in brilliant condition and there was little or no dust whatsoever. It was a bit grippy that could a couple of the guys out, but nothing out of the ordinary.
“I spoke to Lewis on the phone today and he agreed it was just a racing incident, nothing to blame in any way.
“The vast majority of the fans understood the situation and the lengths the management went to considering the situation. We all wanted the meeting on but you can’t do anything about the incidents that happened.
“We just need to re-group and stick together as a club. The senior riders and the management spoke after the meeting and we agreed it’s important to stay strong.”
The Tru Plant Stars next meeting is at Somerset and they will need to replace both Kerr and Andersen.
Proctor continued: “It’s sad but it’s the nature of the sport that we need other guys to take Lewis and Kasper’s places. They are still very much part of the team though.
“We go to Somerset without them but still with a job to do and keep our season on track for the Play-Offs. It’s important to remain positive.”
It’s another awful blow for Kerr’s career after he sustained life-threatening injuries following a horrific track crash in 2015.
Kerr, 28, admitted: “It’s a pretty bad one. I’ve got a long spiral fracture on my left tibia and broken several bones in my right foot. I’ve got more scans to come to see if there’s any further damage.
“It’s a very tough day at the office to say the least, but I’d like to thank all the fans for their kind messages, it means alot.”
