KING’S LYNN overcame a six-point deficit to clinch a 46-44 victory in a last heat decider against Poole on Monday.

The Tru Plant Stars were slow from the gate in the opening two heats with Poole No.1 Brady Kurtz and Nicolai Klindt securing the wins for the visitors with back-to-back 4-2 advantages putting them 8-4 in front.

The home side finally got a race win in with Thomas Jorgensen first to the flag in heat three while Ty Proctor secured third place, which cut their deficit to two points.

With the sun causing vision issues an early interval was taken with four heats completed. Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek seemed unfazed after the break, though, extending their lead back to four points.

Niels-Kristian Iversen and Michael Palm Toft swiftly cut the Pirates’ lead back to two points with a 4-2 of their own in the very next race.

It was only a matter of time before Poole would extend their lead further with Grajczonek teaming up with Klindt for a 5-1 in heat eight. Stars’ boss Dale Allitt responded by opting to put skipper Robert Lambert out as a tactical substitute in the following race.

It seemed to do the trick as Jorgensen and Lambert cut the deficit back down to four points with a 4-2.

The Stars were unable to chip into the Pirates’ lead until heat 13, when Lambert stormed up the inside Kurtz on turn three to grab the lead. And then his partner Iversen went from fourth to second to complete a 5-1, to bring the scores level with two heats remaining.

Jorgensen continued his superb night with another win, although Simon Lambert was unable to gain on the Pirates duo Richie Worrall and Klindt, which meant it would go to a last heat decider in heat 15.

And just like in heat 13, skipper Lambert came up trumps passing Harris for the win while Iversen secured third as the home side ran out 46-44 victors.

Stars’ boss Dale Allitt said: “It was hard work tonight, it was probably great to watch but awful to team manage, but if you’re ever going to lead a meeting then heat 15 is the one to do it.

“The guys were great, we could have gone to pieces a few times because there were a few heats where we thought we would get advantages and we just didn’t. We kept clawing away, and heat 13 was a big turning point.

“Thomas Jorgensen was fantastic for us and even people like Simon Lambert and Jason rode better than their score suggests. It’s been so hot today and that makes a difference to everyone, we’re all human and it’s hard work for all the guys sat in kevlars.”
