BACKTRACK WITH BETTSY

Wednesday June 03, 2020
BACKTRACK, the bi-monthly retro magazine, is out now and issue 98 is dominated by a seven-page 'Life & Times' feature on King's Lynn legend TERRY BETTS.

It recalls the many highs and occasional lows in the illustrious career of the universally popular 'Mr King's Lynn Speedway', who graced Saddlebow Road for 14 seasons between 1965 and 1978 and won World Team Cup and World Pairs gold medals with Great Britain and England.

Of course, Bettsy started off as he meant to go on by winning the first pukka speedway meeting held here – the Lynn Trophy individual event, on May 23, 1965 – after promoter Maury Littlechild managed to tempt him out of retirement. The rest is history . . .

Terry, now 77, is still busy working hard with his son, Terry jnr, building office units near the family home – appropriately named Saddlebow House – in Shepreth, Cambridgeshire.
