COOK TRAINING HARD

Friday July 03, 2020
KING’S Lynn rider Craig Cook has revealed how boxing training is doing him good, physically and mentally, during time out of speedway.

British ace Cook, who is based in Cumbria, has agreed a second successive season with Lynn – if any competitive racing becomes possible.

Speedway promoters up and down the country will be facing decision time within the next fortnight regarding the new season.

No racing has been possible at the Adrian Flux Arena because of the pandemic and the only meeting anywhere this year was the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund event at Scunthorpe on March 14.

Cook has, in addition to boxing training with a punch bag in his garage, taken to the motor cross bike again for some two-wheeled action.

He said: “Sometimes when speedway becomes too much I also like to do this (boxing training).

“I’m nowhere near decent but it’s something I love doing and great for an over active mind like my own.

“It gives me a break from my speedway and allows me to enjoy and progress in a different activity and not bad for a bit of fitness either.

“I’m looking forward to my local boxing gym Cleator Moor ABC getting back open but for now it’s chilling in the garage on my own.”

Minors and Brady Stars racer Robert Lambert has continued his fine form in the Polish Extraliga for Rybnik with 13+1 in their win over Gorzow following his 14-point haul against Zielona Gora a fortnight earlier.

Lambert launches his European Championship campaign in Torun this weekend as the only British representative. It will be a five-round series, all in Poland with limited capacity crowds, throughout July.

UK fans can watch the action on Eurosport with Dave Rowe and Sam Ermolenko on commentary duty – and a UK programme has been produced including racecards for all five rounds.

The 2020 European Championship guide is a 52 page production featuring interviews with Lambert, Nicki Pedersen and Michelsen along with rider profiles including the thoughts of Kelvin Tatum and a look back at last year’s series.

It’s available to order now from curtis-sport.com for £5 and will be posted out on the day of the order.
