SHEFFIELD v STARS, PREVIEW

Sunday August 07, 2022
KING’S Lynn’s new recruit Frederik Jakobsen hopes his average can be the launchpad for a flying return to British speedway.

The Dane is set for his Minors & Brady Stars debut at Sheffield in the SGB Premiership on Monday (7.30pm) and he starts out at reserve.

That is due to the 5.04 average he had when last on these shores as part of Poole’s 2018 title-winning team but he has achieved better than that in Poland’s top flight throughout this season.

And with the possibility of extra rides if he can hit the ground running, Jakobsen is optimistic he can nudge the Stars over the winning line after a spate of close calls in recent weeks.

“I am a bit of a different rider now and hopefully I can help the team to score some good points,” said Jakobsen.

“English racing is different. Each country has its own rules on how to race, I need to get settled in but hopefully being at reserve will help me to ease into the first few meetings.

“There is some catching up to do in the league but there is no reason not to believe in ourselves.

“There is everything to play for and every time we turn up to a match we are there to win. That is the mindset we have to strive for throughout the rest of the year.

"I have spoken with the boys already and I know everyone is really hungry to get on a roll. That has to be the main target for now.”

Jakobsen will be joined by Rising Star Jason Edwards at reserve with Jack Thomas still sidelined by wrist injuries. King’s Lynn’s top five will ride in the same order as they did in Thursday’s home clash with Ipswich.

Sheffield will run rider replacement at number two due to Craig Cook’s injury.

SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Craig Cook R/R, Adam Ellis, Kyle Howarth, Tobiasz Musielak, Justin Sedgmen, Connor Mountain.
KING’S LYNN: Josh Pickering, Thomas Jorgensen, Richie Worrall, Nicolai Klindt, Richard Lawson, Frederik Jakobsen, Jason Edwards.
