BELLE VUE v STARS, PREVIEW

Sunday August 20, 2023
KING’S Lynn have handed their club captaincy to Simon Lambert for the remainder of the season.

The Macinnes Stars travel to Sports Insure Premiership leaders Belle Vue on Monday, with Lambert taking over from the injured Nicolai Klindt in the skipper’s role.

The popular club man rejoined in mid-season when the Stars made team changes, and underlined his 2023 form with an excellent British Final performance at the National Speedway Stadium last week.

Promoter Keith Chapman said: “Simon has been a credit to the club since he returned, and he’s the obvious choice to take over the captaincy.

“We know he’ll work hard to get the best out of others as well as himself, and he’s certainly the right man for the job.”

Monday’s trip to Manchester is also notable for the inclusion of Robert Lambert at No.1 as he makes his return to Stars colours after nearly four years away.

Lambert goes into the meeting after finishing fourth in Saturday’s FIM Grand Prix Challenge at Gislaved, and he would have been in the top three but for a controversial exclusion after a clash with Piotr Pawlicki.

That said, he is still well placed to confirm his spot in the 2024 series and could still qualify automatically with a top six finish in this year’s full series.

And the visit to the NSS means the Great Britain star faces the club with whom he enjoyed a short spell at the end of last season, helping them to the league title after replacing the injured Max Fricke.

He said: “King’s Lynn will always have a place in my heart, but I did have a great time with Belle Vue as well, and the success of the league title.

“Their original team throughout the whole season did the hard work to get into the position and I was just happy that I could fill Max’s boots and come in and finish the season off with a win.

“I got a warm welcome at Belle Vue which was great because I haven’t ridden for any other club in the top league, so I’m looking forward to riding there again.”

The Stars operate rider replacement for Klindt whilst Connor Mountain comes in as a guest for their other injury victim Thomas Jorgensen.
