SHEFFIELD v STARS, PREVIEW

Wednesday August 30, 2023
KING’S Lynn race their penultimate away match of the season when they visit Sheffield in the Sports Insure Premiership on Thursday (7.30pm).

The MacInnes Stars have found the Tigers a bogey side in recent years with the Owlerton side having won all five clashes between the clubs in 2023.

Stars were beaten 58-32 in South Yorkshire in the KO Cup over Easter and then went down 60-30 in the league at the end of May.

Remarkably, only one rider remains in their team from that meeting, with Michael Palm Toft continuing hie comeback from injury, but the Stars are once again without three members of their top five.

Nicolai Klindt, Thomas Jorgensen and Emil Breum are all ruled out, with the Stars bringing in their 2022 team member Richie Worrall to guest for Klindt.

Rider replacement is again in operation for Jorgensen whilst Connor Mountain, who rode for Sheffield last season, stands in for Breum.

Sheffield have been in the news this week having released former British Champion Adam Ellis and ex-Stars man Lewis Kerr, whilst Jack Holder is not resuming his place after injury.

The Tigers have signed Holder’s elder brother Chris – who had a stint with Lynn in 2017 – along with Claus Vissing, whilst Tai Woffinden continues having initially joined as a short-term signing.

They also include Jason Edwards as Rising Star, who spent the first half of the season with Lynn before Anders Rowe took over in that role.

Sheffield already hold a 57-33 advantage for the aggregate point, and a win will officially confirm their place in the play-offs.

SHEFFIELD: Tobiasz Musielak, Kyle Howarth, Chris Holder, Josh Pickering, Tai Woffinden, Claus Vissing, Jason Edwards.
KING’S LYNN: Robert Lambert, Thomas Jorgensen R/R, Richie Worrall, Connor Mountain, Michael Palm Toft, Simon Lambert, Anders Rowe.
