MONDAY PREVIEW - BELLE VUE v STARS

Sunday April 14, 2024
KING’S Lynn head into a busy week on the road as they travel to Belle Vue in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership on Monday (7.30pm).

The PSH Environmental Stars visit the National Speedway Stadium four nights after being defeated by the Aces in their home opener, losing out 48-42 in a last-heat decider.

They will then be in action at Sheffield on Thursday in the first of back-to-back clashes with the defending champions, making this one of the toughest runs of fixtures they will face this season.

The trip to Belle Vue comes first, and whilst the Aces are traditionally strong on their home circuit, it’s a venue where several of the Stars riders have performed well in the past.

That includes the likes of Michael Palm Toft and Niels-Kristian Iversen, whilst Vadim Tarasenko made his UK debut at the Manchester venue last June and scored 12 points.

Palm Toft also goes into the meeting after a confidence boosting outing for his Championship club Scunthorpe on Friday, when he scored a 15-point maximum against Plymouth.

So far this season the Aces have defeated Sheffield 49-41 in the first leg of their KO Cup tie, before a big 51-33 victory over Leicester last week in wet conditions.

Both sides track unchanged, full-strength line-ups with the aggregate point also available as the Aces take a six-point lead into the meeting.

King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “It’s very early days, and at the moment it’s hard to gauge whether Thursday was a bad result for us or a decent one for them.

“All the meetings are tough and we’ve got Sheffield this week as well, but we do need to turn our form around to start getting some wins on the board.

“Having the riders starting to race more regularly now is going to help, and our meetings are coming thick and fast as well with two away matches this week and then back at home next Monday.

“It’s starting to get some consistency in the meetings, and hopefully we will see an upturn in form.”
