STARS v BIRMINGHAM, PREVIEW

Wednesday May 01, 2024
KING’S Lynn return to a full one-to-seven line-up as they host Birmingham in an important ROWE Motor Oil Premiership fixture at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday (7.30pm).

The PSH Environmental Stars are still seeking a first win of the season after a troublesome start to the campaign, and they were hit by injuries in recent trips to Sheffield and Oxford.

But they did put on a most encouraging showing at Cowley, where they could well have ended with a result even better than a narrow four-point defeat, and it is that performance which they will look to build on against the Brummies.

Benjamin Basso returns to the side after missing the last two matches due to injury, whilst Nicolai Klindt makes his first appearance of the season after rejoining the club last week.

Birmingham moved back up to the top-flight last winter, and there is a good historical rivalry between the clubs from their days as big-hitters at Championship level in the late-2000s.

The Brummies have had their own problems in the early weeks but they did gain a morale-boosting home win over Belle Vue on Monday.

And an intriguing switch to their riding order when they visit Lynn is the presence of Vaclav Milik, who had a season in Stars colours back in 2015, in a reserve berth after finding points hard to come by on his return to UK racing despite his known ability abroad.

King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “It’s on our home track and obviously it’s a meeting we would like to win and need to win, to get our season off the mark with some points on the board.

“It will be good to have Nicolai joining us for the first time this year. Obviously Oxford had their reasons as to why they’ve let him go, but we snapped him up when he became available given what had happened with Vadim Tarasenko.

“Nicolai fits for us, he’s happy to come back and hopefully it will be a successful return for him.”

KING’S LYNN: Tobiasz Musielak, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Michael Palm Toft, Benjamin Basso, Nicolai Klindt, Patryk Wojdylo, Anders Rowe.
BIRMINGHAM: Piotr Pawlicki, Steve Worrall, Zach Cook, Wiktor Lampart, Tom Brennan, Vaclav Milik, Leon Flint.
