SHEFFIELD v STARS, PREVIEW

Wednesday June 26, 2024
KING’S Lynn bid for a place in the Premiership KO Cup Final when they visit Sheffield on Thursday (7.30pm).

The PSH Environmental Stars take a ten-point advantage to Owlerton courtesy of an impressive performance in the first leg of their semi-final earlier this month, and that form has been maintained over subsequent league matches.

A place in the Final against holders Ipswich awaits the overall winners, but the Stars again have to bring in two guests to cover the absences of Tobiasz Musielak and Nicolai Klindt.

Regular stand-in Richard Lawson takes the place of Musielak at No.1, and he has a solid record around the Yorkshire venue including a paid double-figure score there for Leicester recently.

With captain Klindt on the injury list, the Stars have moved to bring in Zach Cook to guest, with the Australian recently released by Birmingham but having picked up 8+1 when he rode at Sheffield last month.

It’s undoubtedly a tough test ahead because Sheffield have hit a consistent run of home form of late, including a comfortable victory in their Roses battle with Belle Vue last week.

But although the Tigers track a typically power-packed line-up including the likes of Jack Holder, Tai Woffinden, Chris Holder and Josh Pickering, Stars will travel with optimism that they can defend the ten-point margin.

Manager Rob Lyon said: “You never know. I think we’ll be underdogs given our form this year and Sheffield’s form, but we’ve got a ten-point lead and they’ve got to pull that back.

“We’ve probably got to try to increase it, but certainly protect it at the very least, and that’s what we’ll be aiming to do on Thursday.”

SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Kyle Howarth, Chris Holder, Josh Pickering, Tai Woffinden, Jason Edwards, Dan Gilkes.
KING’S LYNN: Richard Lawson, Zach Cook, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Benjamin Basso, Jan Kvech, Patryk Wojdylo, Anders Rowe.
