LEICESTER v YOUNG STARS, PREVIEW

Friday May 09, 2025
KING’S Lynn look to keep up their 100 per cent start to the National Development Trophy campaign when they visit Leicester on Sunday (3pm).

The Blueprint Construction Young Stars sit top of the early NDT table after their recent home and away wins over Birmingham.

Now they face a Fox Cubs side who picked up their first points last weekend when they beat Birmingham 46-44 and who, like the Young Stars, include several talented youngsters.

They are captained by 15-year-old Will Cairns, whilst 16-year-old Sonny Springer is another rider making rapid strides in the sport.

Leicester welcome Ace Pijper back from injury whilst Luke Harris guests for the injured Mason Watson with rider replacement in operation for Stene Pijper.

Meanwhile the Young Stars have both Aston Vale and Max Perry fit to take their places in a full-strength team after they crashed out of the home win against the Bulls.

King’s Lynn manager Jason Pipe said: “This is going to be a very good test for the Young Stars on Sunday. I wouldn’t like to predict which way this result would go. It’s too tight to call.

“I’m sure Jen Crossland (team manager) will have her boys fired up for this one, but I’m sure their boys won’t need any more motivation as they will have seen that we have won our first two meetings so far, and they’ll be all wanting to stop our winning run.

“I’m certain though our boys won’t be going easy on them! We are going into battle for these two points. Once you’re on a winning run, it breeds good team morale and we are not wanting to give up that winning run anytime soon.

“It’s going to be a very warm day on Sunday and that sort of heat may affect one or two riders on both sides, so it’s all about who adapts better to the conditions.

“I’ve heard that we have a few carloads going from Lynn to Leicester on Sunday, which is great to hear and I’m sure the lads will appreciate that extra support and hopefully get us over that winning line to another two points.”

LEICESTER: Will Cairns, Luke Harris, Ace Pijper, Stene Pijper R/R, Sonny Springer, Max Broadhurst, Owen Booth.
KING’S LYNN: Jody Scott, Harrison Rogers, Ashton Vale, Max Perry, Luke Harrison, Cooper Rushen, Calum Mitchell.
