YOUNG STARS v LEICESTER, PREVIEW

Tuesday June 24, 2025
KING’S Lynn Young Stars manager Jason Pipe says his side can’t wait to get back into home track action as they prepare to host Leicester in the National Development Trophy on Wednesday (7.30pm).

The Blueprint Construction Young Stars are top of the table after winning their opening three matches, one of which was a 53-31 victory in the East Midlands – meaning the aggregate point is also within their grasp at the Adrian Flux Arena.

But Pipe will urge the Young Stars not to under-estimate their opponents, especially with Will Cairns – who is just about to turn 16 and move into the Championship – leading the Fox Cubs.

Pipe said: “It’s so good to be back on home soil this week. Eight weeks has been a long time since we last raced at home.

“All the boys are looking forward to getting back out onto their home track, a track that they all love to race on and one which is always well prepared by Buster (Chapman) and his team.

“The Leicester Fox Cubs will be looking for revenge, with us going into their own back garden just over six weeks ago and coming away with a win by 22 points, with all of the boys scoring points and riding as a team.

“Just because we won at their place by 22 points that day, somehow I don’t think it will be the same here. Since we last raced against the Fox Cubs, they now have a couple of riders back from injury and these Fox Cubs can’t be taken lightly. They’ll be seeking revenge and this meeting won’t be easy. I’m sure their team manager, Jen Crossland will be giving them a good team talk and they will come at us from the off, so we need to be on our guard from the very first heat.

“Even though we haven’t raced as a team since May 11, the boys have kept fit and busy with riding for their other teams, some in the NDL and some of them in the NDL and in the Championship, as well as Jody (Scott) and Luke (Harrison) gaining some fantastic experience, sharing the Rising Star role in the main Stars team whilst Ashton Boughen recovers from injury.

“Calum (Mitchell) has kept himself fit and busy by having some practice sessions and riding Moto X. So they are all race-fit and they are just raring to go. I’m sure we’ll witness some good racing.

“After the meeting, which will be the riders’ fourth in the NDT, it will see each of them get new averages to come into effect from Wednesday July 2. At this moment in time, it’s unsure how the riding order in the top five will look like, from when we race our next meeting away to Plymouth on Saturday July 12.

“Currently we have Cooper (Rushen) averaging 9.78 and Jody 9.71 from their first three meetings. So it all depends on the scores on Wednesday before we can see what the new riding order will look like.

“What I have done from tomorrow’s meeting is to move Ashton Vale to No.2 and Max Perry to No.3, which was going to happen anyway after this meeting, so I thought I might as well switch them now, to give them time to adjust to those new positions before we go to Plymouth.

“It would be great to see a decent crowd again on Wednesday evening to cheer on the boys. It was encouraging to see the support shown to the riders in our last home meeting. With no main meeting at home this week, it would be great to see some extra fans, who like their weekly fix of speedway, to come along.

“Maybe they haven’t yet sampled this level of racing yet, and what a good way in which to come and watch the Young Stars for the first time, with the added bonus of also seeing Leicester captain William Cairns out on track, as I’m sure a lot of Lynn fans won’t have seen him ride yet. I’m sure the races between him and our own Cooper Rushen will be interesting!” “

“Come along and witness some terrific National Development racing and bring a friend!”
