KING'S Lynn head into their biggest match of the season at Leicester on Thursday knowing a win on the night will see them lift the Premiership KO Cup.
The first leg of the Final at the Adrian Flux Arena earlier this week finished all square at 45-45, so the equation at the Hydroscand Arena, Beaumont Park is a very straightforward one.
And for the PSH Environmental Stars, the incentive is there to secure a top-flight Cup triumph for the first time since way back in 2000 when Lynn won over two legs against Coventry.
Opponents Leicester have never won major team silverware at this level, so the stakes are high and another intense meeting is expected.
The Hydroscand Arena has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for the Stars with their last win there coming back in 2018 during the Lions' previous stint in the Premiership, and current team member Niels-Kristian Iversen was in the side on that night.
More recent visits have seen the Stars largely beset by bad luck, but both Richard Lawson and Chris Harris gave excellent performances there at the start of July on a night where a depleted Lynn side avoided the heavy defeat many had been fearing, and all of the Lynn team have had good results there in the past.
On Thursday they have the bulk of their regular side available, along with the booking of Scott Nicholls to guest for the absent Ben Cook which certainly adds further intrigue to the tie given that Nicholls is a former Leicester rider who captained them to second tier honours in 2019.
The home side themselves are unchanged from Monday, and it's no surprise to see Tom Brennan continuing as a guest for the injured Luke Becker following his match-changing performance in the first leg.
But regardless of personnel it is quite simply a one-off meeting to decide the silverware, and the Stars go into it with a fighting chance and with the target clear.
Manager Rob Lyon said: "We've got to show the same sort of character we showed at Ipswich in the semi-final.
"We did it there, and there's no reason why we can't do it again and pull something off. Leicester have lost at home to Birmingham this year so they are vulnerable, and anything can happen in speedway.
"Everyone in the team has been around Leicester enough times and they know what the track is going to be like.
"It's not going to be a surprise, so it's down to our boys to pull off a victory "" and a victory gives us the Cup, which would be fantastic if we could do it."
