CASTAGNA COMPLETES TOP SIX

Wednesday December 31, 2025
KING'S Lynn have completed their top six for the new season with the signing of Italian showman Paco Castagna.

The 30-year-old multi national champion joins the PSH Environmental Stars having spent the bulk of the 2025 campaign with Birmingham.

That was Castagna's first full-time spell in the Premiership, and he averaged 4.13 with the Brummies whilst also captaining Edinburgh to play-off qualification at Championship level.

Castagna does have experience of other top-flight circuits as he rode for both Sheffield and Ipswich in the second tier during his early years in the UK, and he has also made guest appearances for Belle Vue.

Meanwhile his time with Edinburgh since 2022 has seen his average at that level rise consistently.

He's well regarded as one of the best team men in the sport, willing to engage fully with team-mates and supporters, and given the Stars' team model for the 2026 season he was the stand-out candidate to slot into the side under the 37-point limit.

Team manager Rob Lyon said: "We had just over four points remaining, and we've plumped for Paco mainly because of his experience.

"King's Lynn is a track he hasn't mastered yet, but that's not necessarily a bad thing and he's prepared to knuckle down and get that right.

"Given what else was out there for the amount of points we had left, we felt he was very much the best option for us, and I think he'll be a popular signing.

"Paco is a character, and we need characters in our sport, we've not got enough of them as it is. He plays to the crowd and I also think he'll be good for the younger riders at the lower end of the team."

Castagna joins Max Fricke, Jan Kvech, Chris Harris and Ben Cook in the top five for the Stars, with Cooper Rushen also declared at reserve for a side which is refreshed and ready to challenge for major honours. The Rising Star will be named early in the New Year.

STARS TOP SIX: Max Fricke 9.89, Jan Kvech 6.91, Chris Harris 6.53, Ben Cook 6.39, Paco Castagna 4.13, Cooper Rushen 3.00. Total 36.85 (points limit 37.00).
