KING’S Lynn added four points to their WSRA National Development League total with a draw and a win from their final two home encounters.
The Foster Coldstore Young Stars drew 45-45 with Leicester in the opening encounter, before racing to a convincing 56-34 win over Middlesbrough.
That result saw them easily take the aggregate point over the Tigers following a big win on Teesside earlier in the season, and it gives the Young Stars a good chance of finishing off the bottom of the table with one match to go.
Young Stars were hampered in the opening match by the fact that recent signing Dan Gilkes, on his return from injury, retired from his first two rides and was unable to continue.
Those issues helped Leicester into a ten-point lead, but King’s Lynn hit back strongly with three 5-1s in four races go 28-26 up.
A nip and tuck encounter saw the Lion Cubs level again in Heat 12, before Simon Lambert and Jake Mulford put the Young Stars 41-37 up with a 5-1 in Heat 13.
However, Ryan Ingram led a Leicester 4-2 in Heat 14 and they matched that result in the last when Lambert retired and Freddy Hodder defeated the previously unbeaten Jake Mulford to snatch a draw for the visitors.
The second meeting saw Ben Whalley come in as a guest for the Young Stars, who produced a thoroughly convincing performance.
Mulford and Lambert were both unbeaten from four rides apiece whilst Whalley racked up a very impressive 13+1 from five rides, and Mickie Simpson added paid-10.
The hard working Ollie Binns scored 9+1 and 9 in the two meetings respectively, and Middlesbrough were limited to just two race wins – one from Nathan Ablitt and one from Alex Spooner.
There were three 5-1s for the Young Stars, the last of which saw Mulford and Lambert combine in style over Ablitt and Ace Pijper in Heat 13.
The final fixture of the season for the Young Stars will be the return at Leicester, on a date to be confirmed.
