KING’S Lynn have completed the signing of Danish hot prospect Emil Breum, who will make his debut for the club next week.

The 21-year-old comes into the MacInnes Stars side as a replacement for the unfortunate Kye Thomson, with his first appearance to come in the A47 derby trip to Peterborough on Monday.

He will then line up for the first time at the Adrian Flux Arena in the return fixture next Thursday (July 27).

Breum is widely regarded as one of the sport’s best young talents, and he has been impressing in the SGP2 (World Under-21 Championship) series this season, having recorded a 15-point maximum in the qualifiers to reach the competition proper.

After picking up ten points in the opening round at Prague, he then finished third at Gorzow recently to move up to fourth overall, and is in with a realistic chance of a medal heading into the finale at Vojens this autumn.

Born in Ribe, Breum rides for Esbjerg in his home country and is also associated with Opole in Poland and Njudungarna in Sweden – and he’s now ready for the new challenge of racing in the UK.

Stars owner Keith Chapman has warmly welcomed the signing but also has sympathy for Thomson, who came into the team last month as part of the changes which brought Artem Laguta to the club.

Thomson completed nine meetings for the Stars, with the clear highlight being his eight-point score in the home draw with Wolverhampton which was subsequently converted into a Super Heat win.

Chapman said: “Emil is obviously an up-and-coming rider who is doing well in SGP2, and he’s actually a rider that we’ve had an eye on for quite a while.

“He’s a rider with a big future both on the World stage, and with King’s Lynn going forward, he’s doing very well abroad and he’s exactly the sort of rider who I think the club needs.

“We need young, exciting riders coming in, and a lot of thanks have to go to (former Stars rider) Tom P Madsen for helping this to go through.

“It’s been a very difficult time but this is one of the processes we are going through to regroup and restructure with the hope of moving forward for 2024.

“Kye has had a real rough end of the deal, and I think everyone feels sorry for him because he came in as a reserve, which is hard enough in the Premiership, and was then asked to go up into the top five.

“I’m sure he will be very disappointed, and I do feel he has a future in the Premiership, but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind, because going around the country scoring ones and twos is no good for him or the team.

“When that happens it can affect your form for other teams as well, and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that he’s been struggling a bit for Edinburgh recently too.

“Kye has done nothing wrong, it’s purely the fact that he’s been asked to do a job that he never signed up for, and we wish him well – and the door is not shut for him with King's Lynn.

“In a normal season, coming in at reserve in normal circumstances, he would have had the extra time to fit in and get used to the tracks, many of which are alien to him.

“Unfortunately this is far from a normal season for us, and sadly he’s lost his place, but Emil comes in as a club asset, and that’s all part of a longer-term plan.”
