IPSWICH v STARS, PREVIEW

Wednesday August 09, 2023
KING’S Lynn are forced into several changes for their Sports Insure Premiership match at Ipswich on Thursday (7.30pm).

The MacInnes Stars are affected by a number of injuries and international call-ups which means only three of their regular septet are available.

Danish duo Thomas Jorgensen and Michael Palm Toft are on the injury list, although MPT is approaching a comeback and will hopefully return for the reverse fixture at the Adrian Flux Arena next Thursday.

The Stars operate rider replacement for Jorgensen at Foxhall and once again bring in Peterborough’s Benjamin Basso to guest for Palm Toft.

In the lower order, both Emil Breum and Rising Star Anders Rowe miss the meeting as they are involved in Friday’s SON2 competition in Latvia, an event which also means the Witches will be without Keynan Rew.

The Stars bring in Connor Mountain to guest for Breum whilst Sam Hagon stands in at reserve, and Rew’s absence for the home side is covered by rider replacement.

Manager David Hoggart said: “When you have a Rising Star missing, it’s important to understand that you cannot use a Rising Star who is in another team’s one-to-seven.

“You can only use somebody who is on the list who is up-and-coming for want of a better expression, and Sam is the best available for us, so we thank him for coming in.

“In terms of Michael, he has had a practice this week and all being well he plans to race at Scunthorpe on Friday, so he will then hopefully be back with us next week.

“We know Ipswich is a difficult place to go, and Artem (Laguta) will be seeing it for the first time, but Nicolai (Klindt) goes reasonably well around there. It’s going to be tough, but we’ll be going there and giving it our very best.”

Ipswich followed up their win at the AFA last Thursday with another significant result at Peterborough on Monday, winning 47-43 with a 15-point maximum from Emil Sayfutdinov.

That result pushed them into the top four although they have raced more matches than their play-off rivals and they have little if any margin for error over the coming weeks.

IPSWICH: Emil Sayfutdinov, Keynan Rew r/r, Danny King, Erik Riss, Jason Doyle, Danyon Hume, Dan Thompson.
KING'S LYNN: Artem Laguta, Thomas Jorgensen r/r, Benjamin Basso, Connor Mountain, Nicolai Klindt, Simon Lambert, Sam Hagon.
